Episode 3 of *Squid Game*, titled **“The Man with the Umbrella,”** dives straight back into the deadly games, and this time, the stakes feel even higher. After the emotional and reflective tone of Episode 2, this episode cranks up the tension and tests not only the players' physical abilities but also their strategy and luck.
At this point, most of the players have returned voluntarily, realizing that the harsh world outside the game offers no better options. Their desperation pushes them back into the unknown, all hoping to win the 45.6 billion won prize money.
The episode begins with the players waking up to another mysterious day in the game. They’re given a small piece of bread and a bottle of water, hinting at the harsh conditions they’ll continue to face. This time, the organizers introduce the second game: **“Sugar Honeycombs” (Dalgona Candy Game)**. In this game, each player must choose one of four shapes—circle, triangle, star, or umbrella—without knowing what the challenge is. Once chosen, they are given a thin honeycomb candy with their selected shape etched into it. The task is to carefully carve the shape out using a needle... without breaking it.
The challenge sounds simple, but it’s far from easy—especially for those who pick the more complicated shapes like the umbrella. This is where the episode’s title comes from, and sadly for **Seong Gi-hun** (Lee Jung-jae), he ends up with the dreaded umbrella shape. The tension is unbearable as players sweat, shake, and strategize under the threat of death. One crack in the candy means instant elimination.
Meanwhile, we see **Cho Sang-woo** (Park Hae-soo) figuring out the challenge early on but choosing not to share it with his childhood friend Gi-hun. This decision starts to show the darker side of his character. **Kang Sae-byeok** (Jung Ho-yeon) proves herself clever by sneaking into the vents earlier and getting hints about the next game. And **Abdul Ali** (Anupam Tripathi) once again surprises us with his kind nature and sharp instincts.
This episode is a thrilling mix of suspense, betrayal, and clever thinking. It highlights how quickly the line between survival and friendship can blur. “The Man with the Umbrella” reminds us that in *Squid Game*, even the most innocent childhood game can turn deadly—and everyone is fighting for their lives.
